Were you one of the lucky ones? Or did you miss out? The answer depends on whether you knew Tommy Snowden. The long time member of Shelby county’s business, government and real estate community passed away June 10, 2008, following an illness.
Colleen and I get to count ourselves among the lucky ones, thankfully. Tommy was a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty and was a frequent visitor to the Oak Mountain Realty Network’s weekly agent meetings in Pelham.
He was a fixture in Shelby county government for decades, starting in 1968, when Alabama Gov. Lurleen Wallace appointed Snowden as Shelby County tax assessor. His service also included many years on the County Commission at a time when Shelby County saw tremendous growth.

It’s truly a home buyer’s wonderland out there. As I search the available properties on our local Multiple Listing Service, I know there are great deals to be had. As the interest rates remain low, and the inventory increases, I envy those who are getting ready to purchase a home.
I have also noticed that many sellers are prepared to price their homes to sell to they can move on with their plans for the future. Savy buyers should understand that going in with an extremly low offer may not be a good strategy if the house is already priced for today’s market. Today, shopping for a new home can be as much fun as shopping for clothes after losing that 20 pounds!
